There are as many theories as there are bodies in a case like this. In truth, we may never know. We want to know why because we want life to make sense. We want to know why because the rat brain wants to know what to avoid: Loners, gun nuts, guys who just broke up with their girlfriends. Whatever.
1) One of the main theories going now is that the guy suffered some sort of psychotic break after breaking up with his girlfriend. While this gives some of us some mental salving it’s still incomprehensible. I can barely think about understanding wanting to hurt people who you think hurt you. I have never understood bringing third parties into the mix.
2) Not everyone knows everything about anyone. Even if you live with someone, unless you go to the bathroom with them every time and watch them every minute, you don’t know what anyone gets up to when you are not watching. Don’t be surprised if some psychoactive substance is involved here. There are any number of drugs out that can cause a person to part ways with reality. Even if his friends family say he did not take drugs it doesn’t mean he didn’t
3) What if, for whatever reason you were convinced that you were in a dream and that nothing was real? What would you do? You might say that you would never kill a room full of school kids but some of you have bought and played videos games where you did something like that over and over again and you told your friends you enjoyed it.
4) Some accounts say that Adam Lanza struggled to connect with people and was a child of divorce. Before he killed the children he killed his mother.
It is possible that the crime was one of convenience. He wanted to kill people and these people where handy. One person claiming to know Lanza said the young man may have been trying to commit suicide by cop.
5) And finally, maybe it is the end of life as we know it. I don’t know about Mayans and predictions but I do think that life as we know it changes every day. Sooner or later some lab tech will drop the wrong test tube and that zombie virus that turns us all into killers will be unleashed.
Conspiracy minded folks say it’s not some clumsy lab tech that is going to zombify us. They say it’s government. They say the government is experimenting first on individuals and then on populations.
What can we do to stop this?
The real answer is probably nothing. However, nobody wants real answers so let’s go through some things that might make us feel better but will probably accomplish nothing.
1) Have psychiatrists get on every radio and TV everywhere and have them convince people who are going to commit suicide anyway to take out themselves first. Take one for the team!!! Would-be murderers, butchers and serial killers should be convinced that none of their problems would be solved by killing others but all of their problems would be solved by killing themselves.
It’s too bad that no shrink in his right mind would do this. But in reality, it would probably just push a lot of otherwise nonviolent, depressed people to kill themselves. Since this is not our target population we probably couldn’t use this method anyway.
2) Confiscate all the guns. If you think you can confiscate all the guns of all the private citizens in the United States you are not really smart enough to be part of this conversation so put on your Costas, I mean dunce cap. Go watch your rainbow ponies and huggy bears on television whilst the big folks talk.
Could a massive gun confiscation program such as socialists, communists and Marxists have always wanted to do reduce gun violence? In all likelihood, yes. If ordinary people could not reach for a gun during a fit of anger then any crime they might have been committed would be deterred. This is not to say they would not commit a crime with some other device, but it would take a gun out of the mix.
Would random killing sprees with firearms be eliminated? No. There are several reason for this. The principle one is that unless you are going to authorize federal, state and local governments to search every house, you are never going to know whether people are hiding guns in their houses. Even if the democrats turn America into the police state they seem to dearly love, any true gun nut is not going to have his guns in plain sight. The police would have to cover the country with gun sniffing dogs day and night, 24 hours a day to not only find hidden guns but to keep people from moving guns away from the searchers.
Moreover, criminals are still going to have guns no matter how much searching is done. I regret to inform you that policemen are human beings. They can be bribed and threatened. The bad guys will still have guns and they will sell very expensive guns to anyone who wants to buy one on the black market. Oh by the way, the bad guys will not do background checks and would not particularly care if you are a psycho.
By the way, do you remember what happened at Oklahoma City? Even if Obama could take away all the guns in America, there are other ways for criminals to commit violence
Government gun confiscation is inevitable because Obamaunists want it. At that point the only ones besides the military and police who will have guns will be the thousands or millions who have hidden their guns, the criminals and the gun nutzies. I feel safer already.
3) Stop talking about it. Stop talking about what? Whatever it is that makes the crazy people kill. And what is that, exactly? Since crazy people are crazy, we will never actually know what drives them to kill. That’s true but it’s not the point. The point is democrats have never believed in free speech anyway. Now is their chance to shut down all opposition. Say good bye to conservative talk radio. Not because it will do any good whatsoever but rather because every communist in America has wanted to do that for some time. It will be illegal to observe that socialism does not work or that America is a police state on pain of imprisonment or worse. But don’t worry; Obama is going to take away your free speech for your own good. You will never again have to worry about the correct thing to say. Obama will tell you what to say and what you had better not say.
4) If the random acts of violence we are seeing is some kind of government conspiracy then the solution to it is to remove all sharp objects from your pockets and kiss your behind goodbye.
