101010 and Perfect Nuptials

Many think that the most perfect and auspicious date for a wedding in living memory is Sunday the 10^th October 2010, preferably at 10 seconds after 10:10. According to some schools of numerology 10 is a perfect number and 10 appearing three times is a symbol of perfection. I think a poet once said it was tintinnabulation.

Some chapels in wedding capitals like Las Vegas have become so overbooked that they have had to move the weddings to a separate location.

Some vacation destinations are cashing in on the 101010 craze. Bermuda is giving a way 10 wedding to 10 couples.

The Asian Art museum in San Francisco is offering 10% off for people who want to rent the venue on 101010.

A rather large number of couples claim they are choosing the day because in future years the date will be an easy anniversary to remember.

10/10/10 might be a perfect day for a Green Wedding as well. It turns out that groups like 10:10 intend to celebrate the occasion as a Day of Action and the Great Day of Doing. Think of all the great green things that can be done—such as the destruction of capitalism and the reinvention of rock soup for all!

Fans of Douglas Adams book The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy will remember that Deep Thought said the answer to life, the universe and every is 42. It just so happens that when 101010 is read as a binary number it comes to 42 in decimal. Time to bet the farm!
